The dell community thread is this one https://www.dell.com/community/Op...030#M31096 - where they point out that there was the way that they originally wanted to design it, versus the way it actually came out the door. The thread is titled "Optiplex 3060 NVMe SSD Only Works in PCIe 2.0 Mode". In other words, be careful about taking the specs on this guy literally, because the published specs are inaccurate, at least in this area.

Gen 4 should be backwards compatible, I have been outta tech for a bit, however I thought m.2 sata was a thing yet diff the nvme 3/4 (like those should not work in m.2 sata) maybe I am wrong considering your post?

Most common things I've seen on these (I had a fleet of over 200) is that, if dropped, either the wifi antenna connector on the back will bend or or the plastic face will get beaten up/cracked.
I doubt physical damage like that would count as high as cosmetic-B.
